About the NPS Unit Project

Purpose

The purpose of the NPS Unit Project is to collect and disseminate a variety of statistical and factual data about the 425+ units managed by the National Park Service, a component agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Though this data should be publicly available, the overwhelming majority of it is not made so by the agency in an easily accessible manner.

All of the material contained herein is in the public domain, and was obtained from official U.S. Government sources through research (to include FOIA requests) and compilation of data made available publicly by various government, quasi-governmental, and allied agencies.

The material is made available to any user who wishes to use it for any governmental, educational, scientific, or journalistic purpose. Commercial use of the data is not permitted without prior written authorization.

Our History

This project was developed and undertaken by three former NPS employees during the summer of 2020. The National Park Service does not support, endorse, nor fund the project, nor was any officer or division of the agency consulted with or involved with its development.
